About our Chapter

The Kapolei Chapter, formerly the Waipahu Chapter, has been providing American Social dance classes since 1969.  Initially located in Waipahu,  the chapter relocated  to the Kapolei Elementary School in July 2008. The Kapolei Chapter has seen a steady increase of members over the past ten years, and is now one of the  larger HBDA chapters on Oahu.

We currently hold class at the Makakilo Community Center located at 92-1120 Makakilo Drive, Kapolei 96707. Please click on Kapolei HBDA Location  for directions.

The Kapolei Chapter carries on Waipahu’s history and years of service with HBDA.  This year marks  the chapter’s 49th anniversary, while Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association celebrates its 59th anniversary.

All chapter officers and instructors are volunteers.

About HBDA
Founded in 1959,  HBDA is one of the largest ballroom dance organizations in the State of Hawaii. For over 59 years HBDA continues to provide our community with a quality dance program at a reasonable cost to our members. As an outreach to our community, we have established numerous chapters here on Oahu. The HBDA Dance Studio, which offers dance classes five times a week, is located in Aiea. In addition we have chapters located in Kailua, Kaimuki, Kaneohe, Kapolei and Mililani. We also have chapters serving the East Hawaii and Central Maui communities.

Our volunteer dance instructors teach a number of dance styles at the chapters, to include:

  • American Social Bronze I/II Style (Basic)
  • American Social Bronze II/Silver Style (Advanced)
  • International Style
  • Line Dance/Fitness Class

Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association  was named “Best Ballroom Dance Lessons” in the annual Best of HONOLULU Awards for HONOLULU Magazine in 2009.
